Want some advice(sic)on John Deere. I like IH, but my young grandson wants a John Deere. Looking at some on this site from $2,500.00 to $3,500.00. A or B model. Looks like they have been restored, some more than others(sic). I know nothing about J D tractors and will be buying out of state without being able to look at these. What should I be asking the seller about to get my money worth? I want something just to take to shows and ride around on the weekends, without having to tear down and rebuild. Any help would be of great help. Thanks, Mark

I am currently in the process of buying my first JD. I will say this 2500 to 3500 is way to much for a A or B, restored or not. That comment will make a few upset but they will have to deal with it. For that price range you can find a nice G, D, or a 20 series, or a 30 series. You can find A's or B's in good shape, strong runners for under 1500, that should be top dollar. Go to some auctions. Being a IH man, an A is about the same as a farmall H, a G is competive with the M's (even a SMTA).

I agree that 2500-3000 is too much for an A or a B. But show me where some of those $2500 20 series are, OK?

Also, I think an A is comporable to a Farmall M and a B is comparable to a Farmall H.

I am picking up a 720 diesel friday night for 2000. I know of another 720 diesel for 2500 (front end is missing for the time being). 620 needs tires for 3200. These tractors run and are mostly good tin, the one I am buying needs nose work but both engines run. They all are unrestored needing paint. The tractors are out there for that price you just need to take time and look. I like this web site but some people who try to sell here are out of there minds. They must have heard a buddy's cousin sister boyfirend father sold a stuck JD A here for 1500 and now they think they can sell one that runs for 2500. In closing the deals are out there be patient and look. Last weekend I was at an auction where 720D standards,730D standards (both motors running)dang good original paint brought 3000. TAKE TIME AND LOOK.
