Reading about the family that just lost their son in an unfortunate ATV accident. It reminds me that you just never know when but should alway practice common sense so nothing does happen to you. A few years back i was doing a municipal sidewalk project and it was on a Monday and the paticular concrete company we were using wasnt answering the phone. This happened ALL day long no answer, setting my sights on the next days agenda, i decided to make a trip to the concrete plant to see just what the problem was. When I did get there the door was locked and saw somone in the back i finally banged on the door hard enough to make a somone realize I was there. The gal from the dispatch greeted me at the door. I asked what is going on? Se said well i guess you didnt hear, the owner Birney, who i met on several occations and knew each others name, was riding a mountain bike up North and stopped to pick up a returnable POP CAN worth 10 cents and flew over the handlebars and hit his head on a rock and was in a coma in the intensive care ward at the hospital. Now this man owned the concrete co his own batch plant with 9 cement trucks on the road, a millionaire. Needless to say they resumed production and business the next day. A week later Birney passed away at age 76 from a massive close head injury. Please be safe folks alway think twice and once again for good measure.

If the school systmes would ever offer a class on COMMON SENSE, I'm sure those who lack this gift would not have common sense to attend... The older ones have to have this gift to teach the youngers ones, and so it goes, as it's said, like father - like son...

Pennsylvania repealed the helmet law a few years back. I'm not real sure of their logic. But then very little logic comes out of Harrisburg anyway.
But for the most part I guess they think a helmet means the difference between a closed casket and an open casket funeral anyways.
Doesn't a week go by that I don't see a write up in the paper about somebody being maimed or killed on a 4 wheeler, but still you see them running all over with no helmets or even safety glasses. Common sense? Is that an elective course in school?

My son (27 yrs. old) lucked out big time a couple months ago, although it was bad luck to start. He was riding his Gold wing in town one night and a girl in a car turned infront of him. No time to react, and he hit the car in the baxck door. He went sailing right over the car and landed on the road on his shoulder and head ( no helmet). Ended up with a slight concussion, and a broken shouldet blade. Is fine now, but it could have been worse being he didn't have his helmet on. Hejust bought a new bike, (not a Goldwing) but still doesn't like to wear his helmet in town.

He NEEDS that helmet in town even worse that out on the highway. You come off a bike out on the highway at 55 or more and you are going to need a lot more than a helmet. But in town, where most of the idiots roam, all you need to do is hit your head on someones car or curb at less than 20 mph without a helmet, and what could have been a few skined elboes is now a death or worse,a vegatative state. These people need to drain off a little testosterone.Even that idiot,Evil Kneivel, knew enough to wear a helmet.Guess he wasn't a REAL man was he??

My 11 year old nephew and one of his friends were out riding their bikes a few nights ago. They were on a pretty big hill when his friend lost control and hit his head pretty hard. The doctors aren't sure if there will be any brain damage yet or not. It shook my nephew up pretty good. Helmets may look silly but they do save lives and make injuries more unlikely. This boy wasn't wearing one, I wonder if my nephew will wear his now.

I suppose most or some of you have heard about the Steelers player who had an accident on his fancy high powered motorcycle. Some dumb woman made a left turn in front of him, downtown, in traffic, and he promptly hit the car on the right windshield post area. No helmet! Reinforces a notion i have had for years--people with hard heads will not realize the head is not as hard as they think! any way, he's back in the fall line-up. don't know if he's going to ride mc again. Kinda reminds me of some now dead friends who often said:"I wouldn't be caught dead in a safety helmet!" They weren't! Especially old Sam Schotte! He said that. And, one night, full of booze, he turned right out of a local roadhouse, onto a 4 lane, got hit on left front, door opened, Sam fell out--cars came to gether and:"Splut"! Dead as a doornail, and not in his seat belt! Goodbye Sam!
