Im sure this is a stupid question. Did john deere ever build a truck. I have never heard of john deere ever building a vehicle like international harvester. Also did IH ever build a snowmobile?

Deere did put a big block turboed 6 cylinder (6030 ? don't remember now) as an experiment in a GMC OTR tractor back in the late 70s I think, can't exactly remember. It was overhauled while being used out on the road hauling general freight, at the JD dealership where I used to work.

According to the book "John Deere Tractors and Equipment volume 2" they did some expirementing with a heavy duty 6x6 truck with a modified 4630 engine and powershift transmission. It was designed to haul grain etc. out of fields, fertilizer in the spring and even do light tillage. It supposedly performed well but it was decided it would be too costly to build considering the likely limited sales. Face it most farmers use worn out beat up trucks for that sort of work. Have to agree with some of the posts below in that Deere seems to be more interested in marketing the name lately rather than building the quality farm equipment that pretty much put the others out of business. (naa! naa!)

Deere did get into the automobile buisness shortly selling the Deere and Clark Motorcar in the early 1900s It was a four cylinder 25-30 hp 4 passenger machine. They sold a lot of bicycles too.

Not that I know of but they did sell wheelbarrows with the JD logo. My dad bought one during WWII. It was all steel including the wheel. I gave it to my cousin about two years ago. Her husband made a lawn ornament out of it. Good for another 60 years. Nothing like a Deere.

rick: No Deere never built a truck. The closest they came was selling a few 6 cylinder diesel engines to GM about 20 years ago for use in 60 and 70 series single axle trucks.

No, And I ain't gonna talk dirty cuz this is a clean family forum. But it did seem Deere would put their name on anything that would sell and a lot of it was not farm related. This was back in the 70s and 80s

yea but you gotta admit it is a really good marketing ploy to make anything with that name on it. People will buy anything with John Deere on it. I heard one time that Harley Davidson makes more money on stuff than it does on motorcycles. It wouldn't surpirse me if John Deere does that also.
