A couple of days ago there was a post on here about a four year old riding on the fender of a 4020 and the safety issue. Right after I read that I was heading to work and saw a neighbor on a IH 1066 with no cab. He was raking hay and he had four people on the tractor! Himself holding about a 4 year old, what appeared to be wife riding on the left fender holding about a 6 year old sitting next to her on the fender. They were all laughing and smiling and looked like they were having a lot of fun. It did look dangerous but fun at the same time. I am guilty for doing it a lot of times. I am sure he doesn't do that very often but they were that day. I know stuff happens though, dad fell off the drawbar when he was a kid and got ran over by the drill. He was lucky the dirt was real soft and it saved him. Later people.

23 years ago I was bush hogging on a Ford Major early on a Saturday morning, about the time I thought the family would be up and about I drove back to the house for breakfast. My 7 year old daughter came running out to meet me about 100 yards from the house.I stopped and picked her up,she stood on the axel housing and held on to the fender and me.The bush hog was down and the pto off. When we got almost to the house her feet, wet with dew, slipped off the axel housing and down she went.I just reached and grabbed somehow catching her by the ankle and lifted her upside down to my lap in one motion.I almost killed her but for the pure luck of catching that ankle. Blades were not turning is no comfort for doing such a stupid thing, she would have probably died from being run over by it.

good for the gene pool Re: Tractor Safety? in reply to davpal, 08-17-2006 22:46:43
It's a kind of evolution thing. The stronger & smarter tend to survive and breed. The weak and foolish tend to die before they pass on defective genes.

Buickanddeere, that's a good theory, but after Katrina, and the pictures coming out of N.O. we all know that it don't work that way. Those $&%##^%& folks down there can't do anything else, but they are all smart, or dumb enough to breed. Harley

Yeah, but helmets, air bags, and the miracle of modern trauma surgery is seriously mucking with that formula!

Thats how I learned to drive tractor was by riding with my dad. Taught my Daughter the same way. But of course there are people who have had some bad accidents. 20 yrs ago a local doctor borrowed a friends tractor and rototiller and loaded up the kids. His 3 old fell off and got chopped up pretty good (Fatal)
Now the funniest one was when my GF was riding with me raking hay and a grasshopper crawled up her pantleg and she bailed off and jerked her pants down. Dad was baling next field over and got a free moon shot.

DO NOT GIVE THIS PERSON ANY BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION OR YOUR MONEY WILL BE GONE BEFORE YOU WRITE YOUR NEXT CHECK. THIS IS A VERY COMMON SCAM THAT THE POSTAL SERVICE HAS BEEN CHASING FOR YEARS AND NEW ONES KEEP POPPING UP.
BEWARE
