I didn't like the government report that came out last Friday so here is mine.

Soybeans looked OK till about two weeks ago then sudden death started showing up.

I have one field that is got a lot of sudden death in it.

Yields will be average to below average in my area.

Corn looks good but every wind storm that comes thru knocks a little more to the ground.

Some fields in the area are pretty flat. And the yields are hurt on these fields.

I think our corn will be average to above average.

How are the crops in your area?

Gary

Corn in Clymer NY is best I have ever seen. But that great result seems to be pretty localized.
No other crop is really popular other than hay....and that has been good as well.

Good crop year with good moisture to date. Some wind damage to tobacco but yields on corn, tobacco and beans look promising. (W. Ky.)

Southern Wisconsin is in the same shape as Northern Illinois...too good for me to even want to mention. I don't want guys on this board throwing stones at me. Once we got over a really wet spring, it's been rain every 5 to 7 days, with warm growing weather in between. The beans are chest high on my tall frame, and I haven't been able to touch the tassles on the corn for close to a month. All is good, but it isn't harevested yet either...so I'll shut my cakehole.

I'll add in from Virginia. We had some dry weather early on but since the rain stsrted again I would say it will be an average year. Corn yields in the 140 to 160 range and full season beans between 4o and 55. Double crop beans just gettinga good go and look like the average 20. Wheat was average at 70.

Alfalfa crop failed; oats was embarrassing and grass hay very disappointing also.

All in all, just a normal dry land farming type of year. Gotta hurry up and get to planting wheat so we can do this all again next year. :>)

Depends on when and if you got a rain and many missed it when they needed it. Good rains since Monday and some areas have lots of water standing now. Many counties report 50-60% of dryland cotton was gone from earlier hails and sand storms. Cotton yields will be way down and gins won't fare good this time. Was really no dryland wheat to speak of and won't be any dryland milo to speak of because no rains till now. Many irrigated crops were abandoned last month and one can only hope rains came in time but yields will be below average on irrigated corn and milo. Amazingly there is some dryland cotton left that will make something. Only hay was all irrigated. Brown grass and not enough rain in June to keep things green so was very little if anything for grazing. Too many cattle sold off and prices went down. As usual all government employees and representatives got pay raises and we didn't and get the you know what with more expenses.

Glen, Maybe you and i need to move to the New England area. Probably won't make anymore money with other production costs, but atleast we won't have to watch everything that we've worked so hard for just dry up and die. I have a college education and came back to farm. What was I thinking. Too far in to get out now.

Stuck in the eye of a hurricane. Storms all around, but No rain here for months. About 23 inches below average for the last 12 months. Sub-soil moisture is gone, even no-till fields are shot. Corn is being harvested with high yields in the 60's and lows in the teens. A lot of corn has been baled up for hay for cows. Had great plant health, just tried to pollinate when temps were 110 and wind was blowing 30mph. Soybeans are a not, if they haven't died already, and I am haying all of my milo which stopped in the boot to wait for moisture or cooler weather. Got neither. For a 24 year old farmer trying to keep his head above water, this is bad. Wheat made 40 bushel and price went up some. But, as farmers always say, it can't get much worse. By the way, I am in north central oklahoma where 120 bu dryland corn is a bumper crop, and 40 bu beans are great. Wheat never pays the bills unless you graze cattle, but we can't keep cattle for fear of a bad winter storm with no hay. Hay meadow that usually produces 400 large round bales made barely 110 this year.

It don't get much better here in northern Champaign county. We set yield records last year and this year appears to be good or better. On the present course beans should be 55-65 bu. and corn 160-225 bu. depending on the dirt it's on.

Well - Corn was fried early on, ears are full, but kernals are not - yields will be down. Soybeans are doing ok since it cooled down some, hay yield was VERY down, milo seems to be doing ok. All-in-all, things are probably better then we thought a month ago.

I am in SE South Dakota and we have only had 1.25 inches since june 12. Severe drought. I just wish that we could come out of severe drought like Illinois did last year but it is not going to happen. Some of the corn has already been declared zero by crop adjusters ahead of silage chopping. Had a field that looked good by the drive by standard but has no kernels on the ears once it was inspected. Much of that in the area and the guys do not even know it yet.
