Don't like to clutter the forums, but I know when I give advice I always like to hear how it turned out. It WAS the ground. I cleaned all the connections and hooked it up and it works fine.
Thanks for all the responses!

Dave

My brother's camper did not have any brakes several years ago and he ask me to help him fix it. had voltage to the brakes but no voltage drop across the brakes, I checked the ground and it was grounded very poorly to the body. I told him to move the ground to the frame and be sure to ground it to bare metal. He didn't think I was right but did try my suggestions. afterward he called me and exclaimed that now he had good brakes!! I was an electronic tech for at&t at the time. You always need a good ground. just my 2 cents worth. wfw/frank

We have half a dozen trailers at work and when I have to rewire them I ground through the wire harness and not through the trailer frame and solder the connections. It's extra time at the front end but save a lot of time over the years.

When problems w/trailer lights, I all ways start with the ground connections, that is usually where the problem lies.
Good Luck.....
