I have an old Little Giant track hoe that i am making usable again . The bevel drive gears for the crawler drive are shot. Tried to find gears , thought about welding up etc. Light bulb clicked other night, why not switch it to hydraulic drive ? It has 2 17gpm pumps on it . There is a shaft where the gear to track drive goes. Why not mount a pump coupled to that shaft ? No idea what i need to make this work though. Not to worried about travel speed , as anything is better than what i have now . Forward , reverse , motor , control valve , supply and return lines / Any ideas or suggestions ? Thanks Bryan

Working on the older equipment all the time I appreciate the problem you've got. In my opinion though trying to come up with a hydraulic system capable of driving your machine would be not only a nightmare, but an extreemly expensive one as well. Your best bet is gonna be to find the parts you need or have them made and repair it back like it was. Maybe some of the folowing info will help you out. I don't remember now what I was looking for but I found a web site for The Little Giant Corp. awhile back. Never did anything with it except for saving it so I don't know if there will be anything there that will help you out or not but it'd be worth a shot. If you can't find anything there try checking in some of the magazines put out by Heartland Publications. You can reach the parts connection site by going to the following address and going to-- construction--parts connection. Or try any of the other costruction or equipment related magazines they have listed here on the main site. There are thousands of used parts dealers across the US and one of them is bound to have what you need or know where to find it. The web address is-- http://www.hlipublishing.com/ If you have no luck with any of this try looking in Thomas register for companies that can make the new gears for you. I don't know where your located but there is a place right outside gastonia, NC called Spencer Pettis Machine Co that specializes in making gears. If they can't make what you want I'm sure they can direct you to someone that can. We've used them several times over the years and have always been well satisfied with their work. I don't have their number here at the house but I'll be happy to get it for you. Barring that here is a link to the Thomas register site---- http://www.thomasnet.com/ Good luck whatever you end up doing.

thanks for replies . I have original parts book for it and i had called Little Giant in the past.Gears are no longer avail . Tried the Vendor who made the gears ,,, no luck . I priced getting new gears made very $$$$ . I am not looking at dumping $$ into new hydro parts .I was thinking along the lines of used drive motor off cement mixer drum . Seen old Mack mixer for $600 for whole mixer . Gotta be a way to "McGuyver" something up to make it work . But after 3 years of trying to find good gears , don't look good . The gears are beveled and the weak point in these machines. If they were adjusted once in awhile they'd last , but no one ever bother to adjust them and thus they get worn and start slipping . Every set I have found has had the same thing happen thanks Bryan

I definatly wouldn"t put that kind of $ in a little old hoe like that. Get something that will have some years to run. Next, you"ll have so many $ in it you will never get away from it.
