Ive been in europe for the past several weeks. Mostly in Germany. I've taken notice to a lot of the farm equipment over here. And most of the tractors I see have 3pt hitches on the front and rear as well as pto's both front and rear. I just thought that was pretty interesting. Because I have seen front 3pt hitches showing up lately on some of the larger tractors in USA but never front pto's. Another thing i noticed was a vehicle called an UNIMOG made by mercedes. Has anyone ever heard of one. They are like utility trucks that can be available with 3pt hitches and front mid and rear pto's. And they have portal axles like some of the high clearance tractors so they have excellant ground clearance. I think it would be cool to have one, but i hear they are quite expensive to come by in the states. Well just thought Id share some of my impressions.

Versatile Bi-directionals (which became Ford, then FNH, CNH, then Versatile/Buhler, with some AGCO somewhere in the mix) had/have 3-points available at both ends, as well as an option of a PTO at each end.

(These photos do NOT necessarily show those options, but give a general view of the tractors.)

I used to see UNIMOGS around in the mid 1970's at some of the airports I flew into in those days. They were amusing to watch and I wondered if they would ever catch on over here but they, like a lot of european ideas, never did. There were a quite a few attachments available for them. As far as the US is concerned, they came and went with very little notice. As far as 3pt w/pto on the front, Fendt has them over here but I have never seen a Fendt tractor in the field in Wis although I know there are dealers here but evidently few sales.

I live about 10 minutes away from a Massey/Fendt dealer and I see them in the feilds on the big farms. The dealer is Vanderloop, and they have a plaque on the wall for selling the most Fendts in North America. They also sell alot to Canadians, and I think that's a good part of their market.

They are around, but only so few farmers can afford to buy such an expensive tractor.

UNIMOGS have been around forever.

The reason they have hitches on the front and back of the tractors is they don't know if they are coming or going.

You'll find Germany way head of America in a lot of good ways, starting with Health, Taxes, Service, and almost anything else, Germans don't have end of year income tax, they pay their tax (about 25%) from their earned wages. for first time home buyers, thay are guaranteed a 2.5% interest loan. and every one is put on Government Pensions through your employment, with governmnet health insurance and able to retire at age 55. if you need to take care of a loved one in health, the government will pay you to stay home with them, and every year your guaranteed time off to visit Health spa's paid by the government including hotel and meals. That's just some of the perks --- Germany is so far ahead of the USA, it's not funny...

So go move there if you think welfare is such a good deal. Tired of paying your subsidy sucking way of life here anyway.

Try hunting, fishing, property and personal rights. Even after what Americans gave away after the 9/11 scare. America is still ahead of Germany. Ever price property in Germany? You can't afford it at 2.5% interest either. You are crammed into little houses or apartments an arms reach from each other. And regulations? You can't even use duals on your tractor. And the price of fuel, check it out?

What's with you Clowns, simply letting you know there's a difference, Yes property is higher and gas is seven bucks a gallon, but ya know --- America will catch up with that real soon, just sick around, you'll see .... what a bunch of Clowns....

Joe ...i don't usually get involved in these discusions ( & this one is already way "off topic" !!) - but i have to try & explain in a "civil" maner what the "clowns" are trying to say ..... .gov. subsidies (farm , housing , bussiness , etc ,etc) - insurance (both gov & private) - taxes - welfare -- these are all forms of or at the very least an "evolution" towards the "utopian" form of government which HAS NEVER & WILL NEVER WORK ..... this "perfect" government / society i'm talking about is one where everyone pools all they have together & then shares equally ..... it's called "communism" !

You are not stating the differences, you stated how much BETTER Germany is than the US. (farther ahead etc.)

I would call taxing the heck out of the citizens and greatly restricting their freedoms as being way BEHIND us, but then again I'm not on welfare, so who knows.

Of course the wage tax only matters if you have a job, and Germany's unemployment rate is about double the US.

Depends on where you start or stop counting. In Europe, there is a lot more government control and or information than the US. And if you aren't working, you are unemployed - unlike here, where our unemployed disappear from the stats after 6 months. People over there collect unemployment for long periods - some as long as 10 years!

You do not disappear from the unemployment rate after 6 months.

That is false information.

There are other criteria that will remove people from being counted, and I don't know how that stacks up with how EU countries calculate it.

It is not called "unemployed" when you collect for 10 years. It is called being a deadbeat.

It's not the governments duty to find me a job. I have an excellent job because I have always worked harder than the next guy. Unemployment compensation is just another name for welfare. If what you are doing doesn't pay well enough to suit you, then work harder at finding a different job. That is why this country is so great. The hard workers can achieve however much they wish. The slackers get what is left over.

I'll take capitalism over communism any day.

I'm with you Fred: I've never had a problem finding a job, I just got educatied for what I wanted to do, that's the key --- and turning the key is doing a good job, that opens any door Fred. For the Slackers, they depend on left over's as you say.... I also agree with you on Capitalism over communism any day, but we may have both in this Country...

It is worth noting that "Government", whether the US, Germany or anywhere else does not produce anything. Governments take, via taxes the production of others and redistribute it according to the whims of politicians and pressure groups. Some call it "welfare".
