Putting back together a 2424, did nothing to the timing and now have no fire. Been setting 5-6 months, cleaned cap & rotor. Could it be the points? How is the best way to get at those?

Thanks for your help!

Remove the distributor cap, then the rotor, then pull the dust cover up and off of the distributor, to expose the points.

Clean the points, with them CLOSED, by drawing a clean piece of white cardstock through them a few times, then rotate the engine so the points are OPEN, and finish the job with a spray of electrical contact cleaner, and allow that to air dry, with the points remaining open.

Verify the point gap, IIRC, .020", with a CLEAN feeler gauge. (Clean it of any residual oil with contact cleaner, before using it to check the points, as ANY oil, even from a fingerprint, can mess the points up again.)

If you have spark after this, you should be "good to go". If it happens the spark fails again after a little run time, replace the breaker points.
