If I am correct these are a 20 lb. tank, but if not please correct me. They are the same typical size you see on forklifts. I was wondering if anyone knew the capacity of these, in gallons ?

I brought one in for re-fill yesterday and it registered 6 gallons, I thought they might hold a little more than 6, but I have no way of knowing, I'll look on the tank and see if any info is there ( they were new mfr. a few years ago ).

The relief valve was open and usually when the vapor starts to come out, it's full, sometimes it sputters a bit, but once you have a steady flow, it should be full, not the case yesterday at the filling station. I did run it until it was empty and hardly any pressure in this tank, last time mowing, not much pressure when I opened the relief valve. Not to overfill or be a pain to the supplier, but I'd like to be sure, that I'm getting my $20 worth, it certainly runs and is much better on fuel ( a Ford 850 LP ) since I re-built the vaporizer and replaced the safety valve.

Seems to run longer ( had a leak ) and I don't have to switch to the spare I keep full as often, nice to have at least 2 tanks in rotation.

Look on the top of the tank for T.W.(tarry weight)ad 33# and that is the full weight of your tank.A steel tank will weigh around 30# to 45# MT.

Are there Blue Rhino propane tank exchange places elsewhere in the U.S.? Locked, metal cabinet outside many convenience stores/ gas stations around here. You bring in your empty 20 lb. propane tank, exchange it for a full one, pay $16.99 to $22.99, depending on the nerve of the store owner, apparently. At todays prices, refilling a tank costs about 8 bucks, yet apparently many people will pay over twice that to exchange. Not even that convenient- you still have to go get the attendant, just like to fill a tank. Like dad used to say, some peoples got more money than sense, I guess.

The forklift tanks actually come in at least two sizes. They both have the same diameter but the larger one is about 6" longer. I know one of the tanks is 40 lbs. My refiller always waits until it squirts even though he puts the tank on a scale while filling.

Aloha, The place where I have my tanks refilled weights them first and charge accordingly.

The gas Co comes to our shop to fill tanks for the forklift. IIRC, he stops at 7.3 gallons, per tank.

Ok, jogged my memory thanks again! I get them all confused along with the oxy/acetylene sizes as well, definitely a 33 1/3rd size and I'm aware you can get the 40's although they might be a bit of a pain to heft up over the loader frame, good to have when working longer.

So possibly 8 gallons should be about right if empty, not sure if even after the tractor starts to sputter, meaning it's out, is there any other volume to consider, even if the relief valve shows little pressure while standing up right ?

The kid at the place is kind of new, he's a little "funky" around that big nurse tank, and it just seems I'm not getting filled to the correct level, but I'm not one to say something unless I really know what the deal is and it's nice to go to the field with a full tank when brushogging, this time of year is when I do most of it, as the re-growth is not so much.

If it is indeed the same size as your typical forklift tank, then we always called those 33 1/3 pound tanks. The smaller tanks like you see on a BBQ are 20 pounders.

One gallon of LP weighs 4 lbs. If you got 6 gallons, it is overfilled. A 20lb tank should only hold 5 gallons.
