Basically the piston is 3/8" BTDC and you line the marks up from there. Some require a little tweaking and if it was put together backwards it'll be 180 degrees out and fire through the carb.

Go to www.oldgravelys.net

There you can download service manuals, repair manuals, operator manuals, everything you'll ever need for the machine, including parts lists free, no charge. Also, many of the attachments are there as well.

You'll find plenty of information on how to re-time the magneto to your engine. Gravely used 3 different magnetos manufacturers over the years, timing marks are a little different, but the basic procedure is the same for all of them. You'll find great step by step instructions there.

I did post it in the optional link url spot. Why it doesn't show up, I don't know. Its happened to me before that it doesn't show up all the time, so, I type it above also, just in case.

I'll put it in again.
