Well today I took the boys to our county fair ( Benton County Minnesota) and what a dissapointment. There was one small display of ag equipment, one small area of about 10 restored tractors ( that was nice), and the animal barns, and that was about it for enjoyable attending. It was packed with sooo many rude vendors it was more like a flea market in places. The "Midway" of rides and games for kids is just a place for gang bangers and disrespectful young people to hang out and act cool. My boys are 9 and 6 and we could not even get the rides they wanted cause I relocated them away from the foul mouthed, smart a#s punks. I told a few to please watch their mouths around these younger folks and all I got was a big F U. Little SOB's what can ya do you clock em one and you go to jail cause they are teens. Whatever happened to the fair being a place for young and old alike to enjoy and visit and see all the wonderfull things. These yopung gals dress like tramps and their "men" show them off like dogs. The beer gardens are now just a place to get hammered and fight. The food vendors prices are crazy. The best place to eat is the 4H lunch stand. I really think Benton county needs to relocate that fairgrounds out of the St. Cloud area and get her right smack in the middle of benton county so it once again can be a "county FAIR" These punks are a result of 3 things- 1. Lazy Parents 2. a society that complains about teens attitudes yet wont let ya give them what they need. 3. Lack of God in their lives

Sorry to hear that. I spent a lot of time at that fair and always had a great time. But I have not been there in years.

I live in Dakota County now and the fair here is as good a county fair as I have ever been to. The fair is this week. We have 100 or so antique tractors and other pieces of old ag equipment. Threshing, corn shredding and hay press demonstrations each day. The fair is this week in Farmington, MN

Talk to the county Fair Board (administration) and tell them what you shared with us. They need to get a different midway provider. Our West Ottertail County Fair at least had a decent midway; workers were mostly Hispanic with limited English, but they were polite when I had the grandkids there. Don"t know about late in the evening.
At $3 for a glass of lemonade & $5 for fried cheese curds, I went to the 4-H lunch stand and got a decent meal for 1/2 the price.

We just finished the Beltrami county fair. Wife and I walked the midway once, lots of punk dressers but no problems. We have a VERY active sherrifs possie that patrols constantly on foot, horseback and 4 wheelers. Very little ag equipment displayed here too. Really great 4H and where everyone displayed breads, jams etc. Too bad you missed it. Really good in horse area from little kids and ponys thru draft horses. First year of horse dancing. All on Halflinger's. Really fun to watch. That will be repeated at the Clearwater County fair this Friday. Going on now. Always have fun there too. Come on up guys. Bob

Bring them to a threshers show or a county fair away from STC. Nowthen, MN, Forest City, MN, Montevideo, MN- all three shows are the third weekend in August- those of us at Forest City would love to have you- $4 for adults, kids are free. 150 tractors, get about 3000 people for our show. Across the road is the FC Rendezvous- another buck or two for admission. They are not connected to us, but they are our friends- we hold our show the same weekend. They have black powder shoot, pioneer crafts, etc. We do later stuff, early farming, early mechanization, up to 1960 or so.

I hear ya. Thats why we don't take our kids to the Benton County Fair either. It seems to get worse as the sun goes down. Definately NOT a good place to take children or even yourself if you want to have a good time at the fair. We take our kids to the Brainerd Fair in Crow Wing County and that is even getting more and more "punks" running around looking for trouble. I guess to enjoy it better we may have to go earlier in the day when most of the trouble is still sleeping. As far as the food vendors are concerned, in my opinion they don't have anything I wish to eat anyways especially at their prices and the rest if they want to be rude, I will remember them when they want me to buy from them.

Your three reasons sums it up very well. Sad that it has to be that way. We are having our county fair this week as well, and I'm not even thinking of going due to all the reasons you just described.
