If your 165 has a dual stage clutch, it has no PTO brake, it freewheels on it"s own so you can just hook it up and go. I always idle the engine down before disengaging the pto no matter what I run.

I have a 165 with independent pto and the pto brake is small so to give it a (Break) I do use a
override clutch.

If you have independent PTO, be sure that you idle the engine down before before you engage it. I was mowing with mine and the PTO jumped out of gear. I re-engaged it while moving without idling it all the way down and the sudden engagement broke a gear in the tranny. It is hard to ease it in while moving in a bumpy field. Anyway I had to tear the tranny which has multipower, almost all the way down to replace the gears.

No., not if the PTO is live or independent.
