Is anyone out there using used cooking oil (Dunkin Donuts, etc.) for diesel fuel. If so, how do you process it?

My neighbor runs a Ford powerstroke tractor-trailer on straight cooking oil. He hauls cattle thruout NY State and Penn State. He has a system that heats the oil from tank to engine, heated lines, filters, etc. He starts on regular Diesel, then when the engine is good and warm, switches to cooking oil, then before shutting down, runs on regular Diesel to purge the cooking oil from the fuel lines and prevent it solidfifying in the lines. The engine coolant provides the heat for the fuel. All he does after he gathers it from the restaurants is filter the livin' begessis out of it, uses 10 micron filters, I believe. During the coldest days of winter when it goes below zero, he runs on straight Diesel. He syas the truck runs better on the cookin' oil. He also converted a couple of tractors on his farm to run on french fry oil.

Yep!Pick it up at a local drive in, filter it sveral times and mix it with diesel.Im running about 40% right now. There are those running straight WVO by mixing it up with some other chemicals, but I dont have the time or patience to worry about that. I can turn on my filter setup, set the timer for a couple of hours and walk away. I do this about 5 or six days straight, keeping an eye on how good its flowing through the filter, and change when I need to.In colder months, I run it through a hot water heater to keep it liquid and the use less in the takn, like 20% to keep it from congelling(?).

It involves using lye and alcohol to remove the glycerine from the oil to make biodiesel. Try frybrid.com or greasel.com

I know of a man who uses used cooking oil, with no ill effects. Not sure of the whole process, but he filters it and mixes it with diesel fuel. Drive in his yard, smells like a McDonald,,,,, ,,

I think you have to be real carefull about using used cooking oil. Oil that has cooked foods can have sugars, proteins and a lot of other junk that will fowl your engine. I'd stick with unused oil.
