My 53 Farmall super M LP was running great. I use it to power an irrigation pump. It had just completed running for about 6 hours the night before. I went to get it and take it to the fuel tank. It started fine but when I let the clutch out it acted like the choke was pulled all the way out. It is an LP and it don't have a choke. It would run fine until it encountered ANY small load then it started having trouble. I nursed it to the shop and it got worse along the way. I have been through the regulator and found nothing wrong. Took the bottom half of the carb. off and cleaned. Nothing wrong. Fuel is coming to the carb. I can take the hose off the bottom of the carb and fuel will come out of the hose when I press the button on the side of the regulator but it will not flow all of the time. I am under the impression the carb should draw the fuel, not be force fed, and this appears to be the case. It is NOT being force fed. I have cleaned the air cleaner and am confidant it is getting air freely. I have even removed the hose from the carb to the air cleaner just to be sure. The more I mess with it the worse it gets. I have put new points, condenser, plugs, wires, rotor, cap and set the timing. Now it will just barely start and run for maybe 4 or 5 seconds and then die. I was starting to restore it little at a time so I have a new battery, both cables are new, new wires from the coil to the switch, and several other things not related to engine performance. I am at a loss at this point. What else is there? I need this thing to get to work and pump water quick. Please help. I am open to ANY suggestion. Thanks.

I forgot to mention that I have installed new valves in the tank. Both of them, vapor and liquid. And a new copper fuel line to the fuel filter. I checked the fuel filter right at first sign of the problem and I can easly blow through it. I can take it off of the regulator and leave it attached to the fuel line and plenty of fuel comes through it. I know it sounds like this thing should run but it won't. I appreciate your comments. Keep em coming. It's hard to find a good LP guy these days.

You are right that the Carb should draw the fuel.

Icing is not a issue at the Carb with LP's. If things are working right it just can't happen. Icing is caused by the energy draw that is required for the liquid fuel into a vapor. LP's never see liquid at the carb. That phase change is done in the convertor.

Now back to your problem. Only thing I think of is the flow valve on the fuel tank. If you are running on liquid that valve will frost over if the spring is broke. Take the valve out after draining the tank and replace the spring. Also how is your fuel filter? Actually when running liquid your fuel problems will show up as frost around the troublesome component.

Hope this helps.

Could it be that your carburator is icing up? right temperature and humidity will choke up the venturi very easily. Make sure that your fuel source has some form of alcohol mixed with it, and this can usually be controlled. Also check to make sure that you are drawing vapor only. Liquid would allow to much fuel into the system. Airplanes use a feature called carb heat. Warm air is drawn through the carb to eliminate any ice condition. The warmed air does decrease power slightly,
