my grandfather used to have a dairy farm and he had this bowl-like filter with about a 6 inch opening at the bottom where you put a filter disk. the dairy barn was destroyed by fire 6 years ago and the filter is gone. i thought one of these would be good for filtering maple syrup in my sugaring buissness. anyone have one or know where i can get one?
thanks

Yup, we use them every day, twice a day. We still carry buckets (or more like my parents do because I'm either sleeping or working). Sorry, not for sale....

I guess the others have some up for sale, and the disks we can get at both TSC (never have though) and Fleet Farm.

LOL !!!!! !!!!!
No cow squezzers on here I see. I us one twice a day. Its used for a fine filter of the milk before putting it into the bulk cooling tank. Alot of farmers used to carry the milk to the milk house and dump it into the strainer. We use a milk conveyor sytem that uses the vacuum to suc the milk to the milk house and discharge it into the tank. The conveyor has a bigger filter in it. We still use the surge milkers to that hung under the cow with a strap. Makes for a nice work out. The bottom of the strainer is designed to fit inside of a milk can top. This what they was used for at first and the idea for the size just carried on. I may even have a spare stainless one laying around. Any buddy want any old farming goodies? Email is open. LOL heck the Amish come to my place to see how it was done the old way! Later

Depending upon where you live a Farm@Fleet--Fleet@Farm--TSC--Big R or any one of a number of Co-op Farm Stores will order if they do not have Milk filters in stock. www.delavel.com is one major Mfg. of filters as is Surge.

I have an old strainer and new filter discs. I use it for all manner of recycle-ing around my shop. I re-claim/re-use gasoline, diesel fuel, oils, solvents, antifreeze, what-ever. Real handy. I bought a case of filters many years ago when a farm store sold out. For many jobs, I use 2 or 3 discs in the strainer to do a good job.
A separate strainer is used for food products.
Back in the "50"s, some girls would fold and sew/tie the filter discs together to make fancy doll dresses.

I remember what you are describing from my grandpas' Brown Swiss farm.It was about 15"-18" in dia. at the top and funneled down to abt. 6" to fit in the top of the milk cans they used to haul it away in.I believe made of stainless and you put what we called a strainer pad (white fabric filter) in the bottom. From 0-age 10,that's where our table milk for a family of 6 came from.Right out of that can,un-homoginized,un-pasteurized...good stuff Maynard! Keep your eye out at any of the thresher/tractor shows that have large flee markets .
