Just bought a Ford. No model numbers show on it anywhere I can see. Stamped on left side housing is 861, with another 5 digit number stamped underneath, which I can't read. Is the 861 the model number? Thanks for any help.

A 5 digit serial number would make it either a 1958 or 1959. A quick way to tell is the right side of the hood, back by the driver. Is there a hole there with a plug in it? If so it's a 1959. If not, it's a 1958.

Of course you could also check your serial number against the chart on this site. Click on the "serial numbers" link to the left.

Yup - the 861 is the model number, and the other would be the serial number. Lucky dog - that's my dream machine!

Dachshund, where are you located? I may have to sell mine. '58 861, power steering, power adjust rear wheels, set of pie weights, and the list goes on.

It may become my dream machine also, if I get the lift working right. It only lifts about 6-8 inches & quits. I"ve already been getting some helpful tips from real Ford men, (I"m not ot that point yet) and hope to have it working soon. Thanks.

Well lets see, it has a 5 spped tranny, 2 stage clutch right?? If you answer yes to those yep you have an 861 and the numbers under the 861 is the serial number of the tractor. I will have a 172 engine in it, over head valves, should be gray over red as far as the paint.
