Hey all,
here in central texas we are in the worst drought in over 50 yrs. things are beginning to be a little dire. there is not a lot of water left in some stock tanks, for instance our largest (about 6-7 acres surface area when full) is about to be dry. it has a little puddle about 6" deep. We have water on one part of the land though. There is no grass left. On top of that, no sudan grew so no hay. Out of the 350-500 bales of hay we feed a year, we have currently rolled up 30. So we are thinking of devoting every acre to fall oats for grazing, but we have to have rain to get it up. It could be like this last growing year when the grain didnt come up until January. crops have about all gone away too. please send us some rain this way.

Here in Sw Okla. in the last 18 months we are short 25", no grass, waited to plant sudan after what little wheat we had for a rain no luck, took the sudan seed back the other day, and now hoping for enough rain to plant wheat in Sept. Found some CRP to cut for hay otherwise we'd have to sell the cows. So 4" of rain wouldn't last just a few days at 105-110 But we would take it. Like the oldtimers say (just think we're one day closer to a rain)

Tis unfortunate how the weather behaves --

We just got 1/2" in 45 minutes at my house in Connecticut (most of that in the 10 minutes...just after I threw dinner on the grill...had to make supper in my super-duper Carhart rain gear :) )...still showering.

Had a 2 month extremely dry spell in March & April, and since then the heavens have opened up.

And the weather pattern favors shooting tropical storms & hurricanes up the coast at us this year...so lord knows where the final totals will fall!

Wish we could send you a couple days worth! this is one of the wettest years I can remember. The hay is decent if you can get a few good days to work it, but the corn isn't looking great, just too wet. The antique pulls at Wysox may be cancelled for Saturday unless the officials decide on swamp buggies instead.

I think I know where your rain is. Here in NY the heavens open up every day. Send a train of open rail cars up here, let it set a week then haul it back full to Tex.
