Since everyone is having coon problems thought this was a appropriate topic.

This is my Westernfield, I think Montgomery Wards used to sell them. It was handed down to me and I have been hunting with it since I was 8. It has a brass front bead that works great in low light conditions.

I use a 5mm Sheridan Pneumatic on coons, works good and does not wake the neighbors.

An old fellow near here always carried a .22 pistol. He had a monkey and when the dogs treed a coon he would hand the monkey the pistol and the monkey would climb the tree, shoot the coon then climb down and return the pistop. His neighbor wanted to buy the monkey and offered 5,000.00, so he bought it then brought it back a week later. Seems his dogs treed and he handed the monkey tha pistol who then climbed the tree. The monkey came back dowm and shot all three dogs the handed the owner the pistol. What happened the new owner asked? The previous owner said " I forgot to tell you he hates a lieing coon dog. Later

I use a Ruger 77/.17 .17HMR very lethal and usually no exit wound, it explodes inside the critter. So no collateral damage. Also good for gophers around the barnyard for the same reason. I'd guess a .17 mach 2 would also be good.

Mine's a Ruger 10-22 with a 4x32mm scope. Could pick em off at 50 yeards if I had the desire.

Wouldn't work well for me. My coon problems have always been in with my chickens and a shot gun in the chicken house would kill to many chickens. I use a 44mag which is way over kill but its the smallest pistol I have

Most of the time I use hand loads that I make my self. The last time I did so I made up around 500 of them and haven't come close to useing them up yet. The bullet is a 245 grain hand poured bullet, made from wheel weight from cars.

How in the world do you get coons INSIDE your henhouse? I close the "chicken door" every night at dark and nothing gets in.

Coons ripped the wire off a window in my house. I close the door at night but not the windows because of the heat and it has been very hot here the last couple weeks

Go down and get a "Horse Panel" at the local TSC - the ones that have 2" x 4" openings. Cut it to fit over your windows and put "Hurricane" or "Hardware Cloth" (1/2" openings) over it. They'd have to be mighty hardy to get through that.

Well I do have a smaller hand gun but its hard to find rounds for so I don't use it much. I also have a 22 rifle but inside a chicken house its to hard to handle in the tight places and my houses aren't all that big. One is a very old camper trailor

Hey Old,

that picture is a dark one I know, that is a 22 Long Rifle/Long/Short combo.

I would think that 44 mag. must go through and put some holes in the coop, you must have some ear plugs.

Most of the time if shoting in side the house I use a shot type sheel so it doesn't hurt the house much but also when the building is only 10 foot long maybe a little bigger it stays close. Wish I had used ear plugs on one I shot not long ago. My ears rang for days LOL
