I am going to try to put a chevy 305 v8 into my farmall h. What are some problems I might run into? Do I have to make a plate to put in between the motor and transmission? I hope everything will work out ok. Thanks for any help!

Cory

Go for it. I saw a Super M with an International V8 in it at the last show in Tulare, CA. Only tractor I saw worth sitting/posing on for a photo. (I ain't all that photogenic anyways). The old-timer that owned it had every right to be proud. It was absolutely beautiful. Got me to thinking.....

The only reason I am using the 305 is because I happen to have one laying around. I suppose I could put an electric water pump on it to help with the cooling. Its a strong motor and I have faith in it. If I had a 283 or a 327 I would use it. I'm not quite sure if I'll have to move the frame rails out a little more. Well thanks for the help! Cory

V8's in tractors are pretty common these days.... I see one or two at every show i go to anymore, and an ocasional one along the road too...

Here's a V8 powered SM.

You will probaby have to make that plate.

You will have cooling problems. The automotive water pumps expect a higher speed operation than hooked to a tractor transmission.

WHY a 305, that is not the best v8 GM ever built..... a good old 265, 283, 327 would be a better choice..... If you must use the 305, change the cam and lifters, that was the weak point.....a RV grind would be a good choice..... Don

Anything can be done...I once saw a 348 or 409 Chev in a big IH..It was awsume..... Very distinctive valve covers.. 8 " zoomie " pipes.
