Hi Gang;
In late 1949 Nuffield (who owned Morris cars) launched a new farm tractor based on the "best" (?) designes around at that time. The Universal 4 was 4 cylinder.
In the late 1950's to compete with the Fordson Dexta & MF35 & IH 250, they launched the 342 shown here which was a scale down sized Universal 4. 3 cylinder diesel 42HP, 5 F & 1R gearbox. Not as popular as the other makes in this size & HP.
Quite high weight to power ratio. This one is in for an engine rebuild at a "vintage tractor dealer".
Cheers David

Interesting as always David. I always thought those Nuffield engines ran the smoothest of any diesel I've ever heard, just like a sewing machine !!!

Hi JonFarmer;
Yes we had Allis here, up to 1950 the imported A, U, WC, WF, B and the crawlers. Then the English built B, and its sucessors 270 & 272. Later in 1960's the ED-40 which was a failure.
Cheers David
