I have a Farmall model B with the serial Number FAB 198198 which is diplayed both on the tag on the seat bracket and on the engine block. According to S/N guides this tractor should have been manufactured in 1947. However this tractor is equiped with an IH magneto. I was informed that Farmall stopped equiping Model B's with magnetos in 1945 and used distributor ignition after that. What is correct? Is it really a 1947 model or and older model?

Thanks, I read in the service manual that they had magnetos but later had changed to Dist. Give service info for both systems.

Hi Kermit, You were told wrong,ALL Farmall B's came with the mag. I too have a 47 model B. The model A's switched to a distributor in 52. Your tractor was one of the last B's made on Chicago.
There fun tractors to play around on.

Thanks, I read in the service manual that the B had magnetos but later had Distributors. The manual gives service info on both systems.
According to Serial number guides, 1947 must have been the last year that the B was manufactured.

Dad owned a 1948 C Farmall and I am reasonbly sure it had a magneto. Maybe IH gave the customer a choice.
