My uncle is letting me barrow this metal step for my tractor. It's now mounted on the back of my John Deere B. I offered my uncle $30 for it, and he said it's worth a hell-a-lot more! I was wondering what everyone else thought???

He said he used to have it on his John Deere B's when he had them around! He also got mad when I took a grinder to the right side of it, just above the bottom bolt!

-----

The oil on the ground is from when I removed the valve cover...

Well,Tim,I thought my '50 "B"was the only one with a step like that. And I truely felt the same as some of the other posters, that it was just a homemade piece of junk. After seeing your post,I went to the garage to take a closer look. It is exactly the same as yours. The mounting brackets are angle but have the same identical factory cut angled slots so it can be slid under the acorn nuts without removing them. These are definately NOT homemade. Are they original JD or aftermarket is the only question in my mind. Cutting or stamping a piece of angle with slots like that would be a more costly operation in my opinion that just drilling the mounting holes. So the only reason I can see they would do that is because it would save a lot of time on installation.Reason it out...The only people who would spend more to build the brackets that way so as to save labor time on installation would be the factory themselves! Anyone else would just drill the holes and to hell with the extra time it took the purchaser to install them. Also, mine has paint underneath it in all the reinforcements under the diamond plate. And the fact that it HAS formed reinforcements under the plate at all proves to me it was factory built. John Deere or Aftermarket??? My facts lead to John Deere. Maybe a dealer accessory item, but still JD. How about it STAN in Fla.? If you are reading this,I'm sure if anyone has or can get the answer to this you can. Thanks in advance! As far as value?? Whatever the market will bear is fair.

The last one of these I sold on eBay for $78, but you can get them at farm sales for $10-$35, I wouldnt pay more than $30 for one

Sounds to me like your uncle is a little grouchy! All it is, is a couple pieces of angle and a piece of tread plate. It'd be easy to make.

I'm with Mike to me it looks home made any how. I know I have never seen one before and I'm pretty sure its not something made by JD, but I could be wrong

I would say take it to a welder or weld one just like it yourself for about $15-20 and give this one back if it means so much to him. Then you have your own. Mike.
