i have a friend who has a model 60 cockshutt tractor serial # 412901 and we are trying to find the year of this tractor but have had no luck.the previous owner thought it was a 1943 but wasnt sure. we found the serial number on the engine block and it says cockshutt on the front grill,we also found some info that it might be an oliver tractor made between 1940-1948.
if anyone can give us any more info when and where this tractor was built would be helpful.
the owner would also like to know what this tractor would be worth? it is in good running condition.

It should be a model 60 standard, built in 1948..about the 940th one built that year. Probably one of the very last ones built, I presume; assuming it is the original engine.

tks for your reply.but how do you determine it is a 1948 and about the 940th one built, does the serial number give you this info? also the owner is thinking of selling his tractor what would a reasonable price to ask for it?

You are correct, it's an Oliver.

I too have a Cockshutt 60 (mine's a Standard) but for parts or serial numbers it's an Oliver.

Before Cockshutt made treactors of their own they had an agreement with Oliver to build tractors for them and paint and badge them Cockshutt. Later Cockshutt built the 30 and then the 20 and in 49 disolved their relationship with Oliver. Later both Oliver and Cockshutt were bought by the White Motor Corp and shared models again.

To find the yr simply look at the Oliver 60 serial numbers as Oliver didn't differentiate when serial numbering.

Hope I helped.
