Hi Gang;
Is,nt this just the sweetest little combine you've ever seen ? Its specially built to harvest grass seed plots, the inards designed to handle the smallest of seed sizes. Cutterbar is 10 feet wide.
The guy grows trial plots of 5 acres over a wide area - each plot is several miles from another to stop cross polination.
The seed is collected in small wooden boxes, dried and cleaned and tested for purity & germination. If its okay, the seed is then grown in larger fields commercially.
Cheers David

The Japanese harvest rice with walk behind combines with a bagger for storage. They are about the size of a garden tractor except twice as tall.

Hi Glen;
Yes they do "plot combines" here, 5 foot cut with bagger for the small test plots. This one is an intermediate size. Cost the guy $148,000 new 5 years ago! Ouch ! They are special build to order, manual transmission with variable speed on the old fashioned adjusting belts system - not hydo drive like they are today. I think they only build 3 or 4 a year when they get orders.
Know how you feel about the lack of rain, its "king" hot here, the hottest day ever recorded in July. Southest England was over 100F.
Cheers David

Wow that's a fancy one for just seed plots. Most seed plot machines here are smaller without cabs. Other seeds plots are large and they use the big machines on them. Most use large machines to cut grass seed off west of here in New Mexico when they get enough rain to get grass to grow. All the rain has been staying off over there this time too so they should be cutting grass this fall.
