Hi Gang;
The chopper unit uses high speed flails to chop the straw & chaff down into particals 0.25 inch ready to be ploughed in.
If they want to save the straw for baling, the chopper unit drive is disconnected and it folds out of the way to lay the straw in a swath.
The 2 lids on the top of the grain tank fold upwards with material sides to increase the tank holding capacity to 10 tons. Folds dowm flat for storage-transport.
Cheers David

Hi Wayne,
Yes that tank will hold 10 tons of wheat when its piled right up. I hauled wheat last harvest off that combine. That tank full plus the tank off their Case rotary would more than fill that 14 ton trailer heaped up so it ran over the sides!
Most farmers here dont stop to unload, youve got to drive alongside at almost 5mph without the grain spilling over the trailer sides. Those 8000 series JD's are okay you can see into the trailer, the 6520 & 6420 are too low, its a guessing game!
Cheers David

Hi MN Bob;
Spent past 30 years on he road selling farm machinery for importers/manufacturers to the dealers. Had a small stroke followed by Alopecia (hair drops out) both caused by stress.Body telling me its time to take it easy !
Retired early on reduced pension, always loved the area of Southwest Wales, so we are moving down for a quieter life style.
Will still buy and sell a few old tractors and implements to keep the wife in food ! LOL. Try to get some part time work driving tractors in the busy seasons.
The area we are moving to is 150 miles away about 4 hours drive back to visit family & friends here.
Because we will be next to the beach, most of them will be coming down regularly for a cheap vacation !
Cheers David

That reminds me of a story. One of the reps. that used to come to our place once worked on a farm that had a JD combine with a straw chopper. The combine had to be in for repair.However, after it had been mended, someone had accidentally left a spanner ( wrench ) on one top of one of the straw walkers. When they ran the combine up to test it, he said there was the most almighty clatter, pieces of spanner flew out the back like shrapnel and it buggered up a few chopper blades!
