Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me out or point me in the right direction.

I have an Farmall M with an F10 loader. After working the machine for a little while the hydrualic fluid just came pouring out the right cylinder until it emptied the tank.

It leaked a little one other time but stopped and I just added more fluid and it work fine until this last weekend. However the leak was on the other cylinder.

I don't have any experience fixing loaders so somethings might have to be spelled out.

Thanks in advance for any suggustions.

Fish,

Get two old 30 gal oil drums and stand 'em on end under the bucket. Pull the control out all the way so that all the weight is on the barrels.

Take another barrel (or something) and lay it on it's side under the cylinder you are working on but back about 4 or 5 feet making sure the front end of the cylinder will be slightly higher than the rear.

Pull the pin that holds the cylinder ram to the head and let that cylinder down on that third barrel. There is a retaining collar at the forward end of the cylinder and it is held on by a short 3/8" or 7/16" bolt. Take this collor loose and then just pull that ram out of the cylinder.

On the back end of the ram you will see the leather and its reinforcement spring. Change out both cylinders' leathers, put 'er back together and your back in business.

Hope this helps,

Allan

Oh Yeah,

Those leathers can be had at any AGCO dealer; will probably run ya close to $3 a pop. Things just aren't cheap anymore, ya know. :>)

Thanks, I will give a shot in the next couple of evenings after work.

One other problem is that the loader won't stay up right now so that I can get it up on the barrels.

Do I just add more fluid to just get it up and plan on losing the fluid?

You can even do it on the ground if ya like. It is just easier to get that pin/cylinder out of the head if it is up a bit.

Also, with the tail of the cylinder lower while you are working on it, the oil will stay in the cylinder instead of running down out the front.

Those rams aren't really heavy, but they are long and clumbsy. See if ya can get a helper to assist you while you take 'em out and put the things back in.

Other than putting on your socks in the morning, this is the simplest job you'll do all day. Nothin' to it; very easy repair. :>)

I am assuming a F10 is a Farmhand loader. I have a F19 and rebuilt the cylinder seals about a year ago. The kits are available. Reasonably easy job if the cylinders are in good shape on the inside.
