Took my 99 f350 4x4 to the dealer to fix a leaking oil pan gasket. He says that they have to pull the engine to replace the gasket. Does this sound right? He says the book calls for 16 to 18hrs labor.

Took my F150 in for a recall, soon after the shop forman came out and told me my pan was leaking. The mechanic shows me a pan bolt overtigned squeezing the cork out. I was under the truck the day before no leak or gasket. Quoted $650 for repair. On the net a easy repair was found, drain oil, remove pan bolts[except for 2 or 4] slide the gasket out from the outside. Insert the new gasket, start insert pan bolts and done. PS the same dealer pulled the same shot on a club member, complained got nowhere.
