I did not have time to post a photo, but I'll be $%!, the flying rodents and their wonderful kin, have just about nipped the top of every corn plant in our 7 acre field. Mostly nipped, not pulled, some close to the soil, most not, I'm just wondering if it will recover. It really disturbs me as I've tried to keep some of the tradition going here by having at least one field planted every year, used to be 2 but that one was closer to the pond and they tore it up, he would not plant it anymore, can't blame him. Our D.E.C. rep will get a call tomorrow, hate to see him give up on this field, we don't have many farmers left, just one other large operation besides him and that is it.

Get a bird hating dog after a few near misses or a couple of catches they'll pass by your place.Geese rarely land in the fields with my Great Pyrenees and if they do they either leave quickly or not at all

It will grow, and they will nip it again and it may grow and they will nip it again and it won't grow. At least that's how mine did one year. And it was just one pair of geese with gosslings.

I saw a flock of geese in a corn field last week here in Cayuga county. They ruin a lot of wheat but I've never seen them in corn. The resident goose population is exploding and they remain protected because there is no political backbone to allow their control. I think the nipped off tops will not kill the seedling corn if the growth point is still below ground. Corn can take a frost that kills the tops if it is small enough that the growth is still underground. Keep us posted.

We had the same problem years back! We headed out with the guns and just kept scaring them off of the field and put a scarecrow to keep them moving on!
It worked and we saved alot of the corn too!
Hope you like the taste of goose!!

I'll get some photos tomorrow, but the bud seems intact.
