I purchased a John Deere 2020 54 hp. diesel a couple weeks ago. The Serial # plate on the right side of the engine block has RU 43060 (the best I can tell). Can anyone tell me what year model this is? I"m wanting to order a operators manual and a service manual. I understand these tractors was made from 1965 to 1971. When ordering these manuals, are they all the same or do you have to know the year model. If this helps any, The radiator screen is on the front instead of the side of the front. I have seen a couple 69 and 70 models with the screen on the front side. So this must be an older model.
Thanks for any help!

Like said below a 2020 would go by the serial number RH side of trans case and 2010 would go by serial number on engine and if a 2010 would make it 1963. 2010s were made 1961-65. Get the serial numbers and call JD Publications at 800-522-7448 or visit their site. Several different manuals depending on if you have a row crop gas or diesel or row crop utility, special row crop utility, high crop, crawler, LP gas or grove model.

Looks like I've been sold a 2010 dressed up to be a 2020. New paint job and new John Deere 2020 decals. I'll contact John Deere and see what I can find out from them.
Thanks for the information.

You can also search JD parts catalog on left hand side at JD Parts online site and then enter 2010 or 2020 to do some comparisons on casting & part numbers also.

That sounds like a good idea! There are part numbers (raised letters) all over the tractor.
You've been a great help! Maybe now I can order me a manual.
Thanks,
Farmer J.

The 2010's I've seen have front screen and serial no. on right side of engine block. 2020's I've seen had serial no. by rear pto and side mounted radiator screens. I have seen 2010's decalled as 2020's. Your description and serial no. looks to me like a 1963 2010 and I understand your wanting to be sure to properly identify your tractor and get the right books because these two models are very different.
