here we go. Wanting to wire a set of flashing lights onto a 6V system. The wire is hot before going onto the flasher, where it's marked P. But there's nothing when I connect the light a "L" This is the second flashur unit to rule out a faulty one, and the light works when I remove the flasher unit from the circuit. It is a 6v flasher, and I'v run out of ideas what to do. Thanks. Paul

Paul
6 v 3 term flasher would be #229 regular, 235 heavy duty
Think you have 2 wires wrong. If I remember correctly, += hot, p=pilot(indicator) l=load.
the 229 should burn steady with 1 bulb, flash normal with 2, flash really quick with 3.
the 235 should flash normal with 1,2, or 3 bulbs.
HTH Willie

Try using a heavy duty flasher unit. They have a built in resistor, don't rely on the resistance of the bulbs. Use in a 6v system may lead to a slow flash, or even no function.

Do the lamps light steady with the flasher in the circuit?

If so, the current draw of the specific bulbs you are using is too little to make the unit "flash".

Is it a 2-wire or a 3-wire unit?

Bob,

There is no light at all with the flasher unit in there. Secondly, it's a three wire unit, P = power - L = lights and X=indicator.

You gotta get the identity of the terminals correct!

"X" = "input"

"L" = "load"

"P" = "Pilot", to operate an idicator light in the turn signal unit or dashboard, flashes in alternate sequence with the "L" terminal
