I have a small Ford tractor and when I use it for a while and the motor is hot and turn it off , there is a gurgling noise from the radiator. Is this normal or is there a problem?

If the engine has just been worked hard when you shut it off, do yourself, and your tactor engine, a favour - allow it to run a couple of minutes, or more, to dissipate some of the heat. It will last longer if treated that way.

God, I hate myself when I'm like this; it's a textbook case of too much time on my hands. Everything said is perfectly true, unless you have a lot of gurgling. A few floop-floops , as said, is normal; if it goes on for two-three minutes, it could mean you're running just under boiling. I think a 50-50 pressure-radiator mix boils around 250/260, the theory being engines run better hotter and the new metals, etc., can take the heat, but it's probably not a good idea to run it that close to the line. It's one of those things you have to kinda play by ear; if you don't sense the engine feels, smells or sounds hot you're probably in the normal range.

Completely normal! Thats why cars have overflo jars piped to the rad. If the rad is completely full, engine hot, shut it off and coolant will continue to heat up enough to open rad cap valve and push about 2 quarts of coolant out overflo on to the ground. You either need an overflo jar or like car manual says "leave 3" of air space in top of rad when filling. (for expansion when hot) When it cools it will syphon the coolant back into the rad. This is also why your tractor rad will not be full when cooled down and take off cap to check level.

Almost all engines will do that a little right after be shut down when they are good and hot. Shoot I'll bet if you drive your car for say 2 hots and shut it down, pop the hood and listen close you will here it there also but as I said you will have to listen close since it will not be very loud

I don't know if it is normal or not but I have a Farmall Super A that gurgles too. I will be watching this thread to see the replies.

Probably normal. When you stop the engine the pump and fan also stop but there is still a big hunk of iron with a lot of heat to dissipate. The result is the cooling system continues to try to dissipate the heat by thermosiphoning and may even boil for a while. If you have a heat indicator you will probably see it rise.
If no other syptoms such as loss of coolant or oil and water in the wrong places I'd let ot go.
