Hi everyone,

About a month ago, I had posted about the problem with the wiring on my MF 135 Gas (Deluxe) Tractor. Since then, I've finally gathered the tools I needed and dealt with a couple of issues (like removing a sheared starter saftey switch for example). I tested the starter safety switch that was in the tractor before I installed the one that would later shear and it was fine. I went back to the mechanics that repaired my tractor and they suggested that I pull back the plastic housing around the clips that go to the poles on the ignition switch and attach it and make sure there was a good connection. It didn't start.

However, I took the voltage meter and touched the pole that the positive battery cable attaches to and the pole that the wiring harness attaches to, and I got a spark (I probably did something really stupid) and starter/solenoid sounded like it had 'armed' (but that I mean it made a dunh sounding noise) itself and maybe I could turn it over, it didn't.

I as a control factor changed the light switch on the dash to make sure it wasn't that affecting the whole system.

I'm wondering if its not one of three things - the solenoid, voltage regulator or wiring harness.

The reason why I think it could be the solenoid is because the wiring harness leads there as well as the battery terminal. I think it might be the Voltage Regulator cause the mechanics mentioned that sometimes it might need a whack with a hammer to get it to work right (?). And finally the notion of the wiring harness makes me wonder because the short could be caused by a fauty connection inherent in the process of manufacture.

So with this said, anybody have any thoughts? Is there something I'm missing as I am checking?

Happy Fourth of July everyone!

Christos
