Well in this part of the country we normally shed the equipment. I have 2 wagons of hay in the machine shop keeping dry. 3 days now. Small bales. I poked inside of a few yesterday, inside of bale is several degrees cooler than outside. Is it safe? Do I need to move them out and tarp for the few days before they are gone? What is a safe temp for the inside of the bale and is the outer bales on stack a reliable test? Bob

Bob A firefighter told me that from the training he had that combustion can happen 120 days or more later with wet hay.

But if the bales in the center of the load are cool a week after baling I feel they will be alright.

I agree. Also if they were getting warm from being baled tough they would emit a haylage kind of oder.
