Hi gang;
County Commercial Cars of Fleet in Hampshire (mid south coastal area of England) started building crawlers based on tractors and half tracks on trucks in the early 1920's. They concentrated on conversions on Fordsons starting with the model N and continued until the mid-1980's with equel sized wheeled tractors.
The 1st of these was based on the Fordson Super Major from 1960 onwards. This is about 1963 model 52HP 6f 6F & 2R gears. The drive was taken from a modified half shaft on both sides with the drive shafts running down the tractor sides to the front axle. High lugging performance but poor turning circle.
Cheers David

Hi Crusader;
Im not a camera "anorak" but went by advice from camera shop, not the Wallmart type pile it high, sell it cheap type store.
Bought a Canon, best lense quality you can find, the lense is the most important bit. Plus a metal case for safety when I drop it, and chrome colour so I can find it when I put it down somewhere.
Mine is 5M pixels which seems adaquate quality.
Two zooms, one to take close up photos of small objects, the second allows me to zoom the photo Ive taken to see more detail. Plus the most important thing is the battery. Mine is a rechargeable square block which fits into camera, plus a mains charger. Dont buy the cameras that use rechargeable tube type batteries, they dont hold enough charge to last a day at a show etc.
Look for the best deal available, mine came with leather carrying case, recharger, spare film chip, Ive now bought larger capacity chip to hold more photos; and all the leads to connect with computor and a disc to download the Canon sytsem into my lap top. The individual price would have been close to £300 (English Pounds) my "deal" cost £199. Cheers David

I'm enjoying the pics too ;)

One of our long time fire department members owns a County that has quite the reputation for pulling anything.

One day at a large drill, got a Pumper weighting about 40,000# stuck in the mud.

Rigged up pulling cables around a tree, used the County to provide the pulling effort, with a fairly large John Deere utility tractor hooked to the front of the County to hold it's front end down. The tractors where on pavement perpendicular to the stuck truck. I was fairly young, helped get it rigged up, but then got sent off to watch the pull from a safe distance (and quite a bit of amazement!)

Hi Dave,
Keep those pictures coming. I was in England for 5 years and enjoyed everything I saw and went to. Do you ever go to RAF Duxford or the Steam Rallies? Take care and keep the pictures posting. The boss lady gave me the go ahead to buy a digital camera, just can't decide what kind to get. If/when I get one I will try to learn how to post pictures and put a few on here from Korea.
