Hi Gang;
Photo of mid-1950's Fordson Major Diesel RAILWAY WAGON SHUNTER. It was basic industrial model without pto & hydraulics, fitted with single pedal industrial heavy duty drum brakes. Used in railway yards to push rail trucks around sidings and into factory buildings where steam engines were not allowed to enter. Huge steel girders bolted to the sides of the tractor with steel push plates on front and rear. And the towing hooks to attatch to the wagon hitches.
This particular tractor is in original (unrestored) condition, and original cab. beautiful, too good to mess with.
Hope you enjoy something a little different.
Cheers David

We are near granite quarries- and they buy Ford tractors to run large air compressors that run the drills. Later they sell these tractors with high hours, but no time on the driveline, other than the pto. In 1980 I bought a 1974 JD 4430 that was the farmer's corn dryer tractor- couple thousand pto hours, never had a plow on it. Currently has 10,800 hours, first engine, PS transmission, rear end, etc. Uses a pint of oil every 100 hr oil change.

Hi Keith;
The Ford 4D engine has WET sleeve cylinder liners. They have a "rubber" sealing ring at the base which over time perishes. Also the water in the engine can corode the liners and allow water to enter the sump.
These engines were built by the thousand for trucks, tractors & industrial power units. Very simple to work on, and in England at least spares are available evrywhere at cheap prices. We yhink of them as being "bomb proof".
Your local New Holland dealer should be able to source parts easily, maybe even your Ford truck dealer can help.
The Power Major ran from 1958 to 1960, and was uprated engine giving 52HP at engine. Pheumatic govenor & Simms inline injection pump. The industrial & truck engines had different pistons to run at higher engine speeds. Over here many farmers replaced their worn out tractor engines with units from compressors etc. An easy way to spot an industrial or truck engine, look at the diesel fuel pipes which run from the injection pump to the injectors. Tractor engines have straight fuel lines; the truck engines have a "pig tail" coil in each fuel line (to take out vibration at higher speeds). These Majors are wonderful tractors and too good to scrap. They are the English equivalent to the JD4020 as the BEST tractor in the 1950's & early 1960's.
I have 1962 Super Major in original condition. will post photo.
Cheers David

David, thanks for the quick response. I sold my Power Major 3 years ago, wished now I would have kept it. I also made a mistake of giving the individual my shop manual when I sold it, shame on me. :>)

David, You really have been posting some great looking photos in the last week or so. Sure enjoy seeing how people farm and equipment from different parts of the world.

Question for you, have a friend that just bought a Fordson Power Major Diesel, does the 4 cylinder D engine have wet sleaves or dry. His crankcase was filled with water and engine is not froze-up. Thanks

Keep posting all the great photos
