My son has a 7700 which takes a larger oil filter (2qt.)than my 5000 (1qt.) Would it be any advantage to use the larger one on my 5000 (along with additional oil)My thinking is that, with more oil in the system, that the oil would run cooler. Silly thinking ?????

Not silly at all, but adding a few square inches of surface area for heat transfer won't buy you much cooling capability. I imagine most of the oil cooling occurs in an oil cooler some where in the lube system. You'll have more filtering capacity, however

The 5000 does NOT have an oil cooler

No, not silly but for all practical purposes, a one quart increase would be negligable..... If toy wanted to add an external oil tank with several quarts, you might actually see a few degrees differnce in oil temperature.

I would think it would be marginally cooler, given the bit extra metal to radiate heat. Take longer to heat up the oil to operating temp, and more oil to cool off at the end of the day. Extra oil, bigger filter to hold more dirt from more air and fuel (carbon) from the 7000 turbo.

Invest in an oil analysis toward the end of the oil change and see how it has held up. Alternatively switch to full synthetic for better cold start and fuel saving.
