The governor on my 29 D wont opperate smoothly. the governor closes the throtle, but then it opens the throttle all the way for a second and closes it again. I have tried adjusting the rod length and the spring tension, but have had no luck. Any help would be great.
Thanks Brian

With the throtle lever pulled all the way back and the carb butterfly in the closed position. the rod should be adjusted so that it will slide into position on both ends without binding. The 3 holes in the rod are for RPM adjustment only. The less tension on the spring the lower the engine speed. Speed must not exceed 850 without a load. 800 under load. Look for a bind in the linkage. Make sure the rod comming out of the gov. case moves freely. Check the carb. adjustment. This adjustment is for tractors below 109943----- Hope this helps Lewie

Lewie, I tried what you said about adjusting the throtle rod length, but i could not get it to work right. The governor still would not run smooth. The governor is smooth when you move the linkage by hand. Thanks for your help, more help would be great!! Brian

If everything moves freely, try turning the screw on the throtle lever up against the spring on the carb. [ little stub spring] On my tractor the stop spring screw has a locking screw also. Lewie

The end of that screw has to be agaist the spring and in some cases has to push it over some to get the gov. to settlte down. I'm also thinking about fuel delivery and float setting in the carb. If it's starving for fuel, it could react as your tractor does. You might want to check the float level, it should be set at 5/8" below the top edge of the bowl[ on the DLTX 8 carb} If you would e-mail me directly, I will scan some pages from my manual and get them to you. Lewie

Lewie the float level was too low. I fixed that and it was a little better. then i turned the idle screw richer and it runs great. I guess since the gas level was too low it wasnt pulling gas up until it the butterfly was open. Thanks a lot for your help Brian
