My 24t ties perfect on one side but ties a knot that looks good but pulls apart with little effort on the other. I have been told the knife is cutting the string too close to the knot, allowing it to pull apart, but I do not know how to adjust the knife distance. Thank you

Turn twine disc spring loose 1/2 turn at time to increase lenght on knot if other suggestions dont work. Keep track of amount you turn each . Also check tension needed to pull string out of box-both should be same.

I think one of the ways to resolve that issue is to increase the billhook tension...try tightening the nut on the spring on the billhook to increase the tension a bit. Don't do to much, a couple flats at a time. If you get it to tight the knots will hang on the bill hook.

I would think that the billhook cam is not holding the two strands through the loop long enough until the stripper arm wipes the knot off the billhook making a loose knot and then once your bale comes out of the bale chute and expands your knot pulls apart. Increase the billhook cam pressure. Sometimes on those old balers you need to add a shime on the bill hook shaft so that the roller presses against the knotter drive cam harder and applies more pressure. You can also put some washers on the bill hook tension nut to beef up the adjustment spring.

To adjust the knife distance from the twine holder disc, you have to bend the arm that holds the knife. If you remove the one bolt that holds the knotter down and pivot the knotter up, you will see the arm on the bottom of the knotter. This arm, known as the wiper arm, performs 3 functions, it holds the twine as a bale is being made, wipes the knot off of the billhook and cuts the twine. You can try adding a washer or two on the bottom of the wiper arm's pivot shaft in an attempt to move the knife farther away from the twine disc. If that is not enough, you will have to bend the arm a little.

Good luck! you will need it! One of the knotters on my Dad's 24T is not tieing properly and I spend several unsuccessful hours today trying to get it fixed :-( I think I have isolated the problem, now to see if I can correct it :-)
