This is a car but would be the same in a tractor. When I rev the engine (50 mph. Under 50 ok) I get bubbles in the rad. Drive for a while at that speed and it starts to foam and loose water. How can I tell if it is the head gasket, cracked head, water pump sucking air, or something else?

buickanddeere, I havent heard anyone say to make the plug with the airline in years, that was something always in my grandpas toolbox. I thought he was the smartest man in the world forst time i watched him put new valve seals in using the old plug. Auto zone does have them now, if you patronize the idiots. But making it yourself is more gratifying

An old sparkplug with an airline from the shop compressor brazed on. Apply air to the cylinder when both valves are closed. Listen at the rad, intake, exhaust, oil filler and around the head gasket. Make certain the engine doesn't kick over under air pressure and cause an injury.

Yes, it sounds like you have a bad head or gasket. Some garages have testers to see if the bubbles contain combustion products, which would confirm that theory.

You can take the fan belt off and run it so the pump won't turn.

Will,

Is it a 3.0 Ford engine?

Allan

Allan, from my experiences at the dealership, I'd suggest a 3.8 if it's a Ford. There was a headgasket recall on those, while the 3.0 was relatively trouble-free.

probably a head gasket or cracked head. you can take the water pump off and see if the impellars are worn off. i dont think ive ever seen a waterpump pump outside air into a cooling system. lucas
