Here in Western, Pa. I still encounter WC tractors all the time. It seems as if there were a heck of a lot of WC 's made. Perhaps more so than any other model tractor. But maybe this is just a Pa. thing?

My dad bought a new WC in April of 1936. Paid $935 FOB, West Allis. It was on rubber with full spokes front and rear. My uncle bought one a year later. I think he paid the same. His was on rubber with disc wheels front and rear. Neighbors bought John Deere A's for slighly more money and they had slightly more pulling power for plowing but not much. For most chores the WC's performed about the same as JD A's and cost a little less money. $150 was a significant piece of change in 1936. The WC two row mounted cultivator had a big advantage over JD or anybody else. It took about 2 minutes to hook it up or drop it off. A big advantage around haying time (like now) when we would cultivate early in the morning until the dew was off the hay, then drop the cultivator and go and hay all day long and then put the cultivator on early in the evening and cultivate again.

I think Allis sold more WC"s than any other model they made. However, JD sold more A"s and B"s, and Farmall sold more H"s and M"s. The runaway winner for most common tractor is the Ford 8N.

You're right- Ford 8N was over 400,000. WC was under 180,000. WD was about 146,000, WD45 added about 90,000.

Jed, You going to the Pioneer summer show in Saegartown? I usually go on Saturday, and then stay home to rest my sunburn on Sunday.

yes there are a lot of them around. I know in NE Ohio there were AC dealerships in everyother garage (seemed like it anyway) and I presume PA was similar. nice sized tractor for the small hilly fields. What part of W. PA? family base is in the Mercer area. Fam Farm was sold though.
