Hi gang;
In WW1 Roadless Traction developed half track units to fit onto army trucks. Later they developed full and half tracks to fit most makes of tractors. In 1952 they took on the patent rights to build 4wd front axles & transfer boxes from Selene in Italy. They built unequel sized 4wd tractors on Fordson & Ford tractors until the mid-1980's. The transfer sandwich box fitted infront of the main gear box, a propeller shaft ran down the left of the tractor to a front axle which was a modified from the WW2 surplus stocks of GMC CCKW 6x6 front axles.
This particular model is based on the 1958-60 Fordson Power Major. Roadless' name for these tractors was Ploughmaster.

Hi;
Our local tractor club's annual show features a different make of tractor each year in addition to the general display of all makes.
2006 was the Fordson year; where we had almost every model & variation of Fordson manufactured.
The series of photos I am posting now feature the more unusual versions with a bit of background history. Will send photo of Doe Triple D tandem coupled Fordson Majors soon. I believe that in the USA someone coupled up some JD's in tandem in the past to get more power/traction. Anyone got a photo?
Cheers David

David,

Thanks for the picture. I spent many hours on a Fordson Major when I was growing up, and I still think the Majors are fine tractors.

I've seen pictures of tandem tractors made of two Majors hooked together as an articulating 4WD. Your post is the first I've seen of a 4WD made from a single Fordson.

Neighbor had a Major many years ago. It was pretty impressive especally if you removed top air cleaner cover. Made it run much better!!

That looks like a BIG Ford show. More ford tractors in that picture than I think I've seen at one time. Thanks, Harley
