I believe that is freeze 22 or 12. A friend of mine told me that thee John Deere dealer was using it in the tractors that they did air conditioning work on. I was thinking about trying it to see if it would help the cooling on my JD 4050. It has 134 in it now but would I have to change the oil or anything else? Thanks

Yep, did it on one pickup and never going to use it again. Freeze 12 is just a get by with fix if you are lucky. Had to buy a new compressor this year and redo the whole system again. Just go with the 134A with ester oil and do it right and be done with it. Many AC condensers on later tractors and vehicles have the type of tubes that get plugged easy cutting down the cooling capacity flow of the condenser. All you can do is try to flush the condenser real good or get a new one or bigger one if possible.

Freeze 12 contains 70-90% R134a,so I doubt it will cool or stay in much better than pure 134a,and then you have to deal with a goofy blended gas. R134a works fine if done right. My 4450 has not needed a top up of R134a in 5 years, and has all the original 19 year old R12 hoses. I add 1 can of Interdynamics brand R134a refrigerant with hose conditioner and sealer when I do a conversion,it pretty near eliminates any R134a leaks. I have always used Ester 100 compressor oil and have yet to lose a compressor.

Keep in mind that Freeze 22 is a blend and if a leak occurs the different components leak at different rates and you can't just top off the system.
In other words the entire system must be evacuated and recharged.
If your tractor was manufactured with an R134 system then it should supply cooling that is more than adequate. If it doesn't then it needs to be checked.

R-22 is being fazed out already. The new stuff for home air conditioners is called R-410A. It's expensive and requires a special oil with it.
