I just converted my 600 to 12 Volt. Everything works well except the ammeter. Does anyone know the correct wiring method for the ammeter?
Thanks

Dennis, converting the battery n charging system from 6 to 12 volts shouldnt affect the ammeter n she ought to still work, its a current through it sensing device NOT a voltage device.

Sooooo oooo other things that can affect it are if you changed ground polarity????? ?? If you did its wires all need reversed or it will read bass ackwards. If its wired correct if you switch on lights or ignition not running it should swing over to - discharge but then swing to + charge when running ifffff fffff shes charging Sooooo ooooo is she charging??? you know????

The ammeters SUPPLY terminal usually has but ONE wire and thats to the hot ungrounded battery post often via connection at a starter switch/solenoid where the big battery cable attaches. Its other LOAD terminal is what feeds loads like lights n ignition PLUS it wires to the BAT terminal on a Voltage Regulator so it can accept the gennys charging current. BOTH ammter terminals PLUS the BAT terminal on the VR should ALWAYS indicate hot battery voltage if alls wired correct and working.

You leave it wired just like it was.. It really don't care 6v or 12v.. it will still read amps.

If you just did the conversion and are not getting a reading.. then I'd guess you are either not charging.. or the battery is full and there is very little current flow.

Look in your manual for your oem wire diagram.

basically, all lods on one side of the meter, and the bat on the other.. that way you can show net charge/discharge to/from the battery.
