That was great. Did you happen to see on the Military Channel the F-15 in Israle that landed with the right wing GONE from the air intake out. Was in a mid-air during a dogfight. They had no idea it was gone until after they landed becouse of fuel spraying up the right side and the wing location being behind them. Said they would have ejected had they known. They landed at about twice the normal landing speed and riped the tail hook (didn't know F-15s had one)off.

Read an interesting thing about high performance planes in a biography of US pilot and air general John Boyd (now there's a unique guy!).

Seems the SU-25 was fast as all get out - Mach 2.5 or thereabouts - but declassifeid docsuments now indicate that by the time it reached that speed it was out of fuel and the engine needed to be replaced.

Hopefully this new generation of fighters are better. I'm sure the CF105 Avro Arrow would have still outclassed them all LOL!

AWSOME! That forward canard really allows that SU to do some near magical stuff. That along with more horse power than a 30 deep line of D-9 Cats. The smoke at the tips just proves raw hp can make anything fly. When it isn't streaming back those wings are worthless. That is truely amazing.

Had the opertunity to be at NAS El Centro (CA) when the Blue Angels were practicing (it is their Winter home). They really get after it in practice! They do some stuff that will REALLY make your head spin - most of which they are not allowed to do in airshows in this country due to FAA rules.

Yeah, sure seems weak in the cornering department. Looked like a free-fall almost every time!

Now I'm no pilot, but when landing them flaps on the rear sure seems to be flopping like they wanted to come off. And he looked like he sure came down hard on the landing, in my humble opinion. I'm surprised the landing gear took that without collapsing. I've seen much better landings on CNN when we had that rash of planes with crippled gear about this time last year.

But with the flare smoke at the wingtips almost continuous, I'm inclined to believe this was from an air show. He was supposed to be cuttin' up!

Actually, standing on the tail like that at a very high angle of attack is a deliberate combat maneuver. The idea is to slow forward motion enough that your adversary has to pass you in order to keep flying, thereby putting you on his tail. The F-22 Raptor can do a similar maneuver, although I don't recall it being as good at it as this one. These airplanes can turn faster than the pilot can survive...

Those are elevators on the rear, not flaps, & they're supposed to move like that. That's a characteristic of modern fly-by-wire fighters. At slow speeds, the flight control computer has a lot of control authority & moves the surfaces a lot to maintain the desired attitude.

Still an impressive flight & an impressive airplane.

Technically it is a stabilater.

That thing is sweet, too bad the F-22 was outclassed before it even came out.

Yes, aerodynamically. The F-22's avionics & sensors are light years ahead of anything the Russians have. See first, shoot first, kill first...

The F-35 must be a decendent of the F-22. The Boeing X-35 was almost as good and much cheaper. Being butt ugly and having to remove the inlet cowling sunk it's chances of production. Are they still building F-14, F15 and F-16's?
