Just purchased a 1953 Oliver 88 gas RC. I don't see a way to check the level of oil in the transmission/rear end--what should the level of oil be?

Js got it right on the money which he does most of the time. I just checked the level on my RC77 this morning and drained about 1-1/2 gallions out of it. I have seals going in the hyd pump that I will need to replace as soon as I'm done useing it to cut hay down which should be this week I hope. And being the cheap person I am I drained that oil filtered it and put it right back in to the hyds. I fiugre if I do it that way I'll always have the oil to fill the hyds back up till I have the time to pull the pump and replace the seals

Standing behind the tractor looking ahead on the right side close to where the drawbar attaches to the rear frame and lower and behind the axle is a 3/8 inch pipe plug. It is the check plug for both the transmission and final drive. The oil level should be at this level. If higher your seals on the hydraulic pump leak. Capacity is one or two quart less than 5 gallon. The one or two quart is: does it have a belt pulley drive or not? Most farmers just purchased a 5 gallon pail full of oil and dumped the whole thing in. That way they didn't have a 5 gallon pail setting around with just a little oil unless they had a use for it. 80-90 gear oil will work fine. There is only one fill plug and it is the large plug ahead of the base of the hydraulic pump. Questions?
