I couldnt get all my squares up tonight.I use an accumulator and they are in squares of 8 in the feild.I got a late start but the big problem of the day is I left the windrows to big.Over 630 sqaures off 4.5 acres.I got most of them up,probly 200 left in the feild.I could keep picking them up but The dew was setting in and it seems bad to stack them with moisture in between them.So I guess my question is should I keep stacking or let them lay overnite and pick up after the sun burns the dew off?Kyhayman,I seen where you posted for wyoming dave and mentioned you had 525 bales to pick up the next day,do you leave them out overnite?Your in my area so we get about the same amount of dew.

I have had the same situation as plumboy - had to leave a bunch of alfalfa mix bales overnight that I gathered with an accumulator into groups of eight. Next morning I checked them and they were all moist underneath - between the field and the bottoms of the bales. I then had to flip them over by hand, let them dry, and them stacked them. I would not want to do that again; I guess in NY you just don"t leave bales out overnight. Anyone else has any suggestions?

Thanks everybody. The dew was not a factor. Its good to know I can do this.I even checked the the edges to see if any moisture was picked up,there was none.

doesn't the dew burn off? few hrs of sun &/or wind should take care of it.

if theres even a remote chance of any moisture we put a layewr of rock salt between every layer also makes the animals drink more. works great

I leave mine out when I need to or have to. Given my preference I get my dad to run the baler and I run the bale wagon. He was finishing up rolling his yesterday so I went ahead and square baled mine, to pick today. Got them up, no problem.

To deal with dew, and such..... . This was my day today. Met my hired hand at 9:00 at the farm, I ran the tedder over some second cut alfalfa while he bunched round bales with the skid loader. Finished about 10:30. Went and hooked up the bale wagon, serviced it, prayed it worked (hasnt been used since July last year). It did. Stacked 1 load, moved equip around went to lunch. Started back at 1:30, loaded until 5 (20 minutes to load 99, rest of the time was back and forth). No major problems, had one stack tip loading on some class III land, and had to air up a tire on one pass. Loaded and put round bales in the barn until 9:00.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing you have a pure stand of irrigated alfalfa? I have a mixed stand of grass and alfalfa (mostly grass these days) and I got 180 bales on the first cutting on 4.5-5 acres. I've left them out over nite in the field (no rain of course) and stacked them the next afternoon no problem.

yes, we do get a good dew here in Iowa. Usually don't start baling hay before 10-11 a.m. I have an off farm job, so I don't get to start till 6p.m. or so.

It won't hurt a thing - as long as they don't get drenched by a downpour.
