I HAVE A GAS TANK THAT HAS SEVERAL PIN HOLES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK. OUT FROM THE EDGES AND NOT CLOSE TO THE FUEL LINE OUTLET. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO SEAL THEM? WILL J B WELD DO THE TRICK , OR COULD THE BOTTOM BE SEALED WITH FIBERGLASS? THANKS FOR THE HELP.

Recently the Massey 35 developed a gas tank leak...it was out in the middle so I ran it (mowed) till the tank was low, took the tank off and it had been fibreglassed in a foot square area. I started peeling it off and grinding it off with a stiff electric wire brush and sanding disc till I found a 1" long crack. I cleaned it up bright and got the JB Weld 5 minute stuff and repaired the area around the crack and let it set overnight...so far, so good. I think if I remember right, fibreglass isn"t waterproof...thats why they put gelcoat over it when they build boats. Just my experiences and $.02 worth. Fred OH

Just went through that on a Ford 3000 tank that had a couple of pin holes in it. I took it off and aired it out for a couple of days then soldered the holes shut.
Pretty easy actually. Clean it REAL good to bare metal. Use soldering flux. Keep your heat down low.
Propane works fine. I used oxy/acet. squeezed down real low and ordinary lead free plumbers solder. Never had any luck with JB weld. It'll loosen if it's in direct contact with gas.

I had a 8n with a couple of spots in the center of the bottom and no $. I took a couple of pieces of galvanized sheet metal and glued them on with "Seal All". Never removed the tank from the tractor. When I sold the tractor 15 years later it still hadn't leaked. In fact, I forgot about it until now.

Lots of ways... new tank is best.

Yes.. jbweld will stick and is gas resistant.

The few times I have jb welded a tank, I cleaned the area with find sandpaper and sprayed with carb cleaner to get a smooth surface...then I screwed a small sheetmetal screw into the hole, then put a gob of jbweld over that.. completly covering the head and the sourounding areas.. never had a problem again. Did that to an oil pan on a car as well..

Red-Kote tank liner should do well. I think they sell it on ebay now and I posted the info to buy it direct here before so it should be in the archives.

I used POR-15 from a company in Texas, it costs around $50 and works great! I used it to seal all my pin holes on my '49 VAC and had enough left over to paint the outside of the tank with it, paint will stick to it.

Best way is to replace the tank. But you can also get tank liner which should also fix the problem and seal the rust to boot
