Saw this doe yesterday about 11 am just "sitting" out in the middle of this field.

Now, I know what she was up to. :>)

Allan, when I was dairying I had a spot light on my truck, and I would feed grain to calves and heifers before I milked of a morning some at the end of a dead end road where we have land, a lot of timber and brush. I saw a doe three mornings in a row feeding twins, in the same place then about a week later once more.

Came real close to turning one of those fawns into bambi burger a couple of years ago. Was mowing a field with the brush mower. Made about 3 or 4 rounds and on the next pass saw her just about as the front tires passed on either side of her. Shut down in a BIG hurry and backed up a couple of tractor lengths. Upon inspection it was just laying there, eyes closed, nothing moving except her nose was working overtime. I parked the tractor where it sat for a couple of hours. Came back and she was gone.
I guess they're taught not to move come he!! or high water. Would have been both cases if I hadn't spotted her.

IA Gary, Read somewhere just recently that whitetails and muleys can and do cross. White tail has the dominant gene.

Here in Iowa a lot of deer are born in June.

Allen what breed of deer do you have there?

Are they white tail or mule?

Gary

Hi Gary,

We've got both out here; also, lots and lots of pronghorn antelope. Antelope are pretty "wary" tho.

Darned deer are so tame we're starting to name the silly things. Got a lame one that lives right in the yard at the farm and has set up “squatter’s rights”.

And, the danged rabbits are so thick that I about step on the little fellers. :>)

Rabbits were that way around here 10 years ago till the coyotes took over.

Not any more.

Will mule deer and whitetail cross.

I don't think so, but I don't keep up with the things either.

They run separately anyway and they sure keep their distintive colors. Can always tell a mulie a mile off by those big ears and that "mouse" color. :>)

Darned if I know.

But, that sure is one scrawny kid! :>)

When I popped over the hill, he was nursing, but I missed the darned picture.
