I just bought a new house with 5 acers. With the house came a 1962 D-601 Ford Workmaster. I was mowing a few days ago and noticed dark smoke coming from the tailpipe. After a few minutes the tractor stopped and will not restart. What should I do?? Thanks

What's the oil level at?

Did it run out of fuel? Diesels need to be bled to restart - perge air out of fuel lines.

Did it run slower, faster, cough, make knashing sounds, or anything when it quit?

Was it running hot, or cool, or....

Paul, Thanks so much for your help. My tractor runs on gas. This is my first tractor and I don't know very much at all about how it works. I have checked/changed the oil and yesterday I ordered a new carburetor. When I get it next week I'll clean out the glass gas filter and line. If you can think of anything else I should do please let me know. Thanks again for your help. Steve
